The government is set to introduce a Master’s degree programme in Nationalism next year, according to Minister of Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim.

The minister made the announcement at a press conference held at the President’s Office, where he stated that the President has placed priority on expanding higher education opportunities in the field of nationalism. As part of this initiative, 50 scholarships have been allocated for Master’s level studies.

Initial preparatory training for the programme is already underway at the Ministry of Language, Culture and Heritage, with formal teaching scheduled to commence at the Islamic University once the programme is launched.

The minister explained that one of the core responsibilities of the ministry is to broaden public understanding of nationalism by framing it within scientific and intellectual contexts, rather than treating Dhivehi nationalism solely as an emotional concept.

He noted that more than 3,000 individuals have already received training focused on the scientific definitions and principles of nationalism.

Promoting nationalism remains a central pledge of the current administration. In line with this policy, the government has established a dedicated Nationalism Office and introduced nationalism-related lessons into school curricula. It has also mandated that school classes begin with the national anthem as a measure to strengthen patriotism among students.

The minister further highlighted that 40 students have previously been awarded full Master’s scholarships under the National Restoration Project.
