Guitarist Ahmed Shaheed, professionally known as Shahyd Legacy, has announced his departure from the band 2ofus, citing concerns related to financial transparency, professional respect and creative direction.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Shahyd said the decision was difficult but necessary, adding that he felt fans and supporters were entitled to understand the reasons behind his exit.

He said a persistent lack of financial transparency and irregular payment practices had created an unsustainable working environment. Shahyd also said there was little room for artistic or professional growth, and that mutual respect within the band had gradually diminished.

According to Shahyd, the band’s musical direction no longer aligned with his personal style or creative identity. He further said the band’s internal structure felt less like a collaborative effort and more like a one-man operation, which conflicted with his expectations as a band member.

Shahyd also said he was disappointed that his 25 years of experience in music were not sufficiently acknowledged or valued during his time with the group.

Despite the circumstances of his departure, Shahyd said he remained proud of the band’s achievement at India’s Battle of the Bands International, where 2ofus placed second runner-up — an outcome he described as among the most significant achievements in Maldivian live music.

He said he had worked extensively towards that result and took pride in the recognition the band received.

Shahyd concluded by wishing the remaining members of 2ofus well in their future endeavours, while stating that he would move forward with renewed focus on music that more accurately reflects his artistic identity, guided by clarity and self-respect.

Last year, the band’s vocalist Mohamed Nasooh had also departed without citing any official reasons.
