Hanimaadhoo Airport Resumes International Flights After Year-long Hiatus

MV+ News Desk | April 16, 2024

Hanimaadhoo International Airport in the Maldives has officially resumed international flight services after a year-long pause.

The hiatus was put in place to facilitate the completion of a major airport development project, which necessitated alterations to the airport’s operating hours.

The airport, operated by the Regional Airports Company (RACL), will now accommodate two international flights per week. A key milestone in the airport expansion project has been reached with the official opening of a 1,200-meter section of the new 2,465-meter runway. RACL anticipates that all remaining work on the runway will be finished by the end of this month.

The resumption of international flights is expected to boost tourism and economic activity in the northern Maldives.
