The proportion of students enrolling in higher secondary education has increased to 48 per cent, Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu has said.
Speaking at a ceremony on Sunday evening to recognise high achievers in the higher secondary examinations, Dr Shafeeu said enrolment in higher secondary education was low when President Dr Mohamed Muizzu took office in 2023.
He said the increase had been achieved through policy changes and the expansion of educational opportunities, describing the rise in enrolment as a significant milestone for the education sector.
Dr Shafeeu said the government aims to provide as many students as possible with the opportunity to pursue higher secondary education in order to develop a more educated generation.
The ceremony also recognised students who achieved the highest results in the higher secondary examinations, with prizes and certificates presented to the top performers.
