Home Ministry State Minister Fairoosh Resigns, Says ‘Right Time’ to End Public Service

Homeland Security, Labour and Technology State Minister Dr Abdulla Fairoosh has resigned from his position, announcing his departure today.

Fairoosh announced his resignation in a post on X, saying he had made the decision after careful consideration and believed it was the right time to end his public service.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve & esp to the colleagues & institutions with whom I had the privilege of working,” Fairoosh said.

Fairoosh had previously served as a State Minister at the Ministry of Higher Education before being transferred to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology in the same capacity in 2024.

After careful consideration, I’ve decided to resign from my position. I believe this is the right time to bring this chapter of my public service to a close.

Following his departure from the Higher Education Ministry, Fairoosh thanked Higher Education Minister Dr Mariyam Mariya and ministry staff for their cooperation during his tenure.

Before joining the government, Fairoosh served in the Maldives Police Service for 20 years. He retired from the police service in 2021 with the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

However, the People’s Majlis rejected his honorary retirement that year following multiple allegations raised against him.
