Housing Minister Faces Questions on Hiyaa Finishing Expenses Reimbursement

Hulhumale’ MP Ali Niyaz has proposed the summoning of Housing Minister Dr. Haidar Ali to parliament for questioning, seeking clarification on how MVR 200,000 from the expenses incurred for the finishing works of Hiyaa apartments will be reimbursed to the owners.

MP Niyaz referred to a pledge made by incumbent President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his presidential campaign, wherein he promised to reimburse MVR 200,000 from the finishing works expenses to the owners.

Citing this commitment, MP Niyaz aims to seek clarification on the plan for reimbursing the expenses and the anticipated timeframe for completing the initiative.

Addressing the concerns, Urbanco’s Managing Director Fazul Rasheed reassured on Tuesday that Hiyaa owners would indeed be reimbursed for the finishing works as promised. This statement comes at a time when rumors alleging Muizzu’s decision against reimbursing the residents have gained traction.

During a campaign event in Hulhumale’, Muizzu had declared that the reimbursement of MVR 200,000 from the finishing works expenses of Hiyaa apartments would be facilitated through a loan obtained by Urbanco. 

He noted that this approach had been part of the plan laid out by the former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration, which oversaw the development of the social housing units.
