The Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development affirmed its commitment to retain the list of recipients under the “Gedhoviriya” Scheme, stating that flats will be allocated to eligible recipients without any associated issues, today.
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih introduced the “Gedhoruveriya” scheme shortly before the end of the previous government’s term, prompting the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to suspend flat distribution.
The ACC’s investigation revealed that 60 percent of the listed recipients did not meet the eligibility criteria, with only around 20% of the flats allocated to rightful recipients. The remaining applications contained various discrepancies, including misinformation and partial point allocations.
The ACC submitted a revised list of rightful recipients to the Housing Ministry last Thursday, eliciting mixed reactions from the public.
Housing Minister Dr Ali Haidhar pledged last week to expedite the distribution of flats to eligible recipients under the “Gedhoruveriya” scheme. Following the ACC’s investigation, the Ministry received a list of error-free applicants, prompting discussions on finalising the allocation criteria.
A statement from the Ministry confirmed the receipt of the ACC’s list and the ongoing deliberations on allocation criteria. Some members of the public have lodged complaints with Parliament, urging the swift resolution of the distribution delay.
