Housing Ministry Launches Viber Communities for Housing Schemes

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Construction has launched Viber communities to provide updated information on the “Housing for All” policy and the Binveriyaa scheme.

In a social media post, the ministry shared links to several dedicated communities covering the main housing programmes, including Housing for All and Binveriyaa initiatives in Gulhifalhu, Giraavarufalhu, and Hulhumalé. It encouraged the public to join the channels to receive updates on application processes, scheme developments, and related announcements.

The ministry said the new platforms are intended to improve communication and ensure applicants have access to timely information on ongoing housing programmes.

The move comes amid significant public interest in government housing schemes. According to statistics released by the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, a total of 58,505 applications were submitted under three major housing programmes by the time the application deadline closed on 15 June 2026.

Under the Aailaa Boahiyaavahikan programme, 45,644 applications were received, including 35,818 for flats and 9,826 for land plots. The Goathigedhoru scheme received 12,861 applications, of which 12,749 were for land and 112 for flats.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has previously said that applicants selected for flats under ongoing housing projects will be identified and notified this year. He has stated that allocations will be made strictly based on eligibility criteria and verified through a points-based system, with recipient lists to be published publicly.

He also said that foundation work for most housing towers in Malé is expected to begin in July, with overall completion of the projects projected between May and July 2028.
