Hussain Shafeeq Appointed MPL CEO Following Rishwan’s Resignation
Shafeeq becomes the third individual to hold the position of Managing Director of MPL under the current administration.
Privatization and Corporatization Board has announced the appointment of Hussain Shafeeq as Board Member, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), effective immediately.
Shafeeq becomes the third individual to hold the position of Managing Director of MPL under the current administration. He replaces DCP (Retired) Mohamed Rishwan, who served in the role until the conclusion of the elections held on April 4. Prior to Rishwan, the position was held by Mohamed Wajeeh, who was dismissed in February last year.

Rishwan had been appointed Managing Director in February 2025 but resigned earlier this month.
His resignation came amid a broader wave of dismissals and resignations involving senior officials in state-owned enterprises, following setbacks faced by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) in the 2026 Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections, as well as the referendum held on the same day on merging parliamentary and presidential elections.
