Immigration Warns of WhatsApp Scam Calls Targeting Face IDs

MV+ News Desk | September 9, 2024

Maldives Immigration has issued a warning about scam calls being made via WhatsApp, which are falsely claiming to be from their department and attempting to capture individuals’ Face IDs.

According to a statement released today, an international number is making video calls via WhatsApp, posing as representatives of Maldives Immigration.

The callers, who are dressed in outfits resembling Immigration uniforms and wearing face masks, also use a backdrop that appears to be an Immigration office during these calls.

Immigration has confirmed that these calls are not being made by their officers and has urged the public to remain vigilant against such scams.

The department emphasised that the scammers’ goal is to collect Face IDs through these fraudulent video calls.
