Indian High Commission Marks International Yoga Day in the Maldives with Over 500 Participants

The Indian High Commission in the Maldives celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga today at Taj Exotica Maldives, drawing more than 500 participants to the event.
The Maldives’ State Minister for Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Ibrahim Amir, attended as the chief guest. This year’s celebration embraced the global theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” organised by India’s Ministry of AYUSH. Participants of all ages, dressed in coordinated blue attire, were seen practising a variety of yoga poses under the guidance of instructors, as captured in images shared from the event.
The event was held peacefully, in contrast to the 2022 International Yoga Day event at Galolhu Stadium, which was disrupted by extremist protesters. Following a review of the incident, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) announced last Tuesday that it will only pursue charges against individuals with clear evidence of direct involvement in the violence or acts of intimidation during the 21 June 2022 event.

In its statement, the PGO confirmed that it will not proceed with cases lacking such evidence, highlighting its intent to ensure accountability based solely on verified actions.
