Injured Kidnapper Admitted to IGMH After Hostage Situation

The kidnapper who was arrested while holding a woman hostage at knifepoint on Thursday night has been admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
According to the Maldives Police Service, Ahmed Akhtar, the apprehended individual, began vomiting after being discharged from ADK Hospital, where he had received initial treatment for injuries sustained during his arrest. The police had been forced to use necessary measures to subdue him.
Akhtar was discharged from ADK Hospital on Friday but was later transferred to IGMH as his condition deteriorated. He is currently under observation at IGMH for further treatment.
The hostage, identified as a police officer, was reportedly subjected to physical assaults by Akhtar. She was forcibly removed from a residence in Maafannu and beaten during the incident.
During the hostage situation, Akhtar threatened to kill the officer if the responding police attempted to pursue him. He forced her onto a motorcycle in an attempt to flee but was apprehended by the police, who used necessary force to resolve the situation and rescue the officer.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police met with the officers involved and commended them for their exceptional conduct and bravery in managing the situation.
