Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau received the vehicles on behalf of the Maldives. In his speech, Commissioner Shujau highlighted the rising crime rates and emphasised the need to intensify efforts to ensure public safety and security. He stated that the new vehicles would aid in expanding road safety operations and improving the police force’s capacity to conduct effective operations.

“With crime on the rise, it is important to enhance the capacity of the police to conduct operations. Providing the police with better resources will give them confidence in their task of ensuring safety and security,” said Commissioner Shujau.

Ambassador Midori expressed Japan’s commitment to supporting the Maldives Police Service with additional resources, including operational vehicles, metal detectors, lasers, passenger craft, rubber inflatable boats, and diving equipment.

Japan has previously donated vehicles to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Customs.
