In the wake of the first round of the presidential election held on Saturday, Jumhooree Party (JP) is set to reveal its stance on forming a coalition tomorrow for the upcoming second round.
With an initial showing of 5,460 votes, JP has scheduled a crucial council meeting to make this decision, set to convene on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
The second round of the presidential election holds paramount importance for the Jumhooree Party, as the outcome will significantly influence its political trajectory.
Notably, former President Abdullah Yameen, the founder of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) coalition, has issued a directive advising against forming a coalition with JP.
A source with close ties to Yameen stated, “He explicitly advised against such an alliance and showed no interest in pursuing such collaboration.”
The second round of the presidential election is slated for September 30.
