MACL Warns of Strict Action Over Misuse of Airport Security Passes
Airport security pass misuse will face strict action
The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has warned that strict action will be taken against employees who misuse airport security passes issued for work at Velana International Airport (VIA).
The warning was issued in a circular sent to all MACL staff and relevant authorities. According to the circular, airport security passes are issued solely for official duties and to access designated restricted or controlled areas.
MACL said it had observed some employees entering the Arrival Baggage Belt area, which is under Customs control, without any operational requirement and interacting with passengers.
The company stated that such actions could compromise aviation security and disrupt both airport and Customs operations.
The circular reiterates that airport security passes must be used strictly for official duties and that personal or non-operational use is prohibited. Employees are also prohibited from entering Customs-controlled areas without specific authorisation or interacting with passengers unless it is required as part of their official responsibilities.
MACL said employees who breach these regulations will face administrative action. This may include the confiscation, suspension or cancellation of their airport security passes.
The company urged all employees to comply fully with airport security regulations, procedures and operational instructions to maintain safety and security at the airport.
