Majlis Speaker Abdul Raheem Meets Lok Sabha Speaker During India Visit

Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in New Delhi on Tuesday during his official visit to India.
According to a press release by the People’s Majilis, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC), currently under way in the Indian capital. Abdul Raheem commended the arrangements for the conference, saying the well-organised event reflected the Lok Sabha’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary cooperation among Commonwealth legislatures.
During the discussions, Abdul Raheem highlighted the long-standing bilateral ties between the Maldives and India and explored ways to further enhance relations between the two countries and their parliaments, according to the press release.

He also expressed appreciation for the training and capacity-building programmes provided by the Lok Sabha to staff of the People’s Majlis Secretariat under the memorandum of understanding between the two parliaments. The Majlis Speaker discussed measures to further institutionalise parliamentary cooperation and build on the existing framework of collaboration.
Birla reaffirmed India’s readiness to share its experience in parliamentary operations, particularly in the areas of digital innovation and training through the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE). He underscored the role of parliamentary cooperation in strengthening bilateral relations and agreed to deepen engagement between the two legislatures.
