Maldives and Bangladesh Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh has described the longstanding relationship between the Maldives and Bangladesh as being founded on strong people-to-people ties during an official meeting with Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.
Dr Khalilur Rahman is visiting the Maldives as a special guest of the government to participate in events marking the country’s 61st Independence Day. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Minister Iruthisham welcomed her Bangladeshi counterpart and thanked him for accepting the invitation to attend the celebrations.
The two ministers discussed the close bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Bangladesh and agreed to continue strengthening cooperation between the two countries. They also explored opportunities to expand collaboration in healthcare, education, trade and investment, tourism, labour, and human resource development.
The meeting further covered cooperation at the regional and international levels, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to working together on issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Dr Khalilur Rahman announced that the Government of Bangladesh would donate 300 kilograms of Khirsapat mangoes to the Maldives as a symbol of the friendship between the two countries. He also announced a donation of 20,000 tree saplings in support of the Maldives’ Five Million Trees Programme.
Minister Iruthisham expressed appreciation for the donations and said the visit reflected the close partnership between the Maldives and Bangladesh. She added that the visit had created fresh momentum for expanding bilateral relations and expressed confidence that it would lead to greater cooperation for the benefit of both countries.
