Maldives and Malaysia to Sign Bilateral MoUs to Establish New Strategic Partnerships

The Maldives and Malaysia will sign a series of bilateral Memoranda of Understanding next week during an official State Visit by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Prime Minister Anwar will oversee the formal exchange of the agreements following high-level bilateral talks at the President’s Office. The agreements are aimed at deepening cooperation across key sectors and establishing new strategic partnerships between the two nations.

Prime Minister Anwar will undertake the two-day visit from 14 to 15 September 2026, marking his first trip to the Maldives since taking office in November 2022. President Muizzu extended the invitation during an official visit to Malaysia in April 2025.
Beyond the bilateral signing ceremony, the two leaders will discuss expanding cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral forums. During his stay, Prime Minister Anwar will also meet with key Maldivian figures, receiving courtesy calls from Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla, and Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.
