Maldives and UAE to Forge Strategic Partnership for a New Era in Bilateral Relations

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu expressed the commitment of the Maldivian government to forge a new era in bilateral relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
He made this declaration during his address at the official reception commemorating the 52nd Union Day of the UAE.
The reception, held at Hotel Jen was attended by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, Vice President Uz. Hussain Mohamed Latheef, and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, the President stated that since the unification of the Emiratis fifty two years ago, we stand witness to the amazing feats accomplished through unity among people with a shared vision. He added that the UAE has gone through a tremendous transformation, and this momentous occasion is an opportunity to admire and congratulate the UAE for its success.
During his remarks, President Dr Muizzu stated that the UAE is one of the world’s most popular destinations and described it as an example of progress and prosperity, embodying the extraordinary spirit of the Emirati people. He stated that this year marks the forty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the UAE and that over the years, the two countries have enjoyed an excellent relationship.
He emphasised the valuable and cherished nature of this relationship, citing the UAE’s recent commitment to provide additional funding for the completion of Velana International Airport’s expansion project as a testament to the steadfast partnership in development.
Moreover, the President announced that he would be traveling to Dubai to attend COP28 later this month. He stated that it is a critical COP, especially for Small Island Developing States like the Maldives, and that we must operationalise the Loss and Damage Fund, ensure that we achieve ambitious outcomes at the first ever global stocktake, and bring the world together to save our planet.
Furthermore, President Dr Muizzu stated that the Maldives will support the UAE to ensure the success of COP28, and that it delivers concrete outcomes under the UAE Presidency.
