The Maldives and the United States (U.S) have carried out discussions on strengthening trade prospects to further enhance their economic partnership.
According to a post on X by the Ministry of Economic Development on 11th August, Maldivian Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed met with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Dave Williams to discuss strategies for deepening economic relations and increasing trade and investment flows between the two nations.
Minister Saeed separately noted on X that the discussions centered on solidifying the economic relationship between the two countries. Recent US-linked commercial developments include Google’s planned international submarine-cable landing station in Addu and the introduction of PayPal payment-receiving services through Ooredoo Fintech. These initiatives align with earlier bilateral discussions on improving digital connectivity and expanding access to international payment platforms.
The Maldives and the U.S, which have maintained diplomatic ties since 1966, continue to partner on development aid, democratic governance, and climate resilience.
