Maldives Celebrates Faafu Atoll Education Centre’s Global Sustainability Award at ADSW

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, has attended the opening ceremony of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) in the United Arab Emirates. 

The ceremony featured the Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards, which recognise outstanding global contributions to sustainable development.

At this year’s awards, Faafu Atoll Education Centre was named a winner in the Global High Schools Category – South Asia. The accolade marks a significant achievement for the Maldives and highlights the impact of youth-led innovation in sustainability. The school’s student-led project incorporates solar and wind energy, rainwater harvesting, sustainable farming, hydroponics-based innovation, and improved water management to enhance food security, health, and environmental outcomes.

The Foreign Ministry stated that the Maldives’ participation in ADSW demonstrates its ongoing commitment to sustainability, climate action, and education-driven innovation.

Minister Khaleel is accompanied by Ambassador of the Maldives to the UAE Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Additional Secretary Khadeeja Najeeha, and Assistant Director Fathimath Reena of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
