The Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade has amended the Maldives Expo 2026 policy to allow island and city councils to collaborate with individual-category participants from their respective constituencies and submit items on their behalf.

The ministry said the change aims to expand participation in the competitive category of the Maldivian Innovation & Production Exhibition 2026 and enable councils to support participants from their respective islands and cities.

Under the amended policy, products submitted independently by councils and those submitted in collaboration with individual participants whose permanent address is in the respective island or city will be considered when determining the first, second and third-place awards for the Island and City Councils category.

Councils wishing to participate in the category must submit their applications through www.expo.mv by 31 August 2026.

The Business Center Corporation (BCC) previously announced that applications for Maldives Expo 2026 would remain open until 31 August, with entries accepted across 73 categories in 16 fields.

The expo has also expanded eligibility for individual participants. According to BCC Deputy Managing Director Samih Adam, any Maldivian citizen aged 13 or above can participate this year, compared with the previous minimum age of 18.

The change aims to encourage greater participation among young Maldivians, according to Samih, who spoke during the fourth episode of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade’s Trade Desk podcast.

Further information is available from expo@bcc.mv or by calling 3330601.
