Maldives Immigration has announced the formal integration of three additional passport-related services into its digital IMUGA portal as part of ongoing efforts to modernise essential public services through online systems.
The IMUGA portal, launched in 2020, has developed into the central digital platform for immigration-related services. It has now been expanded to allow citizens to request changes to passport collection points, apply for official copies of passports, and obtain records of previously issued documents.
The agency stated that the changes mark a significant shift in administrative procedures. Previously, individuals were required to submit physical letters to change passport collection locations. This process has now been replaced with a digital application system available through the Maldivian passport section of the portal.
Requests for official copies of passports, which earlier required direct email communication with the authority, will now be handled through a centralised online application module. The process for accessing historical passport data has also been simplified, allowing citizens to request such information directly through the secure platform.
Maldives Immigration stated that the continued development of the IMUGA system remains a key part of its strategy to improve efficiency and public convenience through integrated digital services. The portal continues to serve as the primary platform for a wide range of visa and immigration-related applications.
