Minister of State for Homeland Security and Technology Dr Mohamed Kinaanath has attended a curtain-raiser event ahead of the forthcoming AI Impact Summit, scheduled to be held in India from 16 to 19 February 2026.

The event was organised by the Indian High Commission and brought together a range of stakeholders in preparation for the high-level summit.

Discussions focused on the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of national security, governance and technological development in the Maldives. The engagement highlighted the Maldives’ increasing interest in adopting emerging technologies through international cooperation, while also reinforcing diplomatic and strategic relations with India in a rapidly evolving digital environment.

The AI Impact Summit will be the first global artificial intelligence summit hosted in the Global South. The summit aims to promote a future in which the benefits of artificial intelligence support humanity, drive inclusive economic growth, encourage social development and advance people-centred innovations that contribute to environmental protection.

It also seeks to strengthen the voice of the Global South by ensuring that technological progress and opportunities are widely shared rather than concentrated in a limited number of regions.
