Maldives to Join Makkah Route Initiative, Easing Hajj Travel for Pilgrims

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed held a meeting this morning with the delegation visiting the Maldives to implement the Makkah Route Initiative.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Minister Dr. Shaheem expressed his deep gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for including the Maldives in this significant initiative, which is aimed at easing the travel process for pilgrims.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the program, stating that all relevant government agencies will work in close coordination to facilitate the smooth execution of the Makkah Route Initiative.

The initiative is set to officially commence in the Maldives on the 26th of this month, coinciding with the departure of the first group of Maldivian pilgrims for Hajj 2025. A total of 235 pilgrims will travel on this first flight.

The inclusion of the Maldives in the Makkah Route Initiative is expected to bring substantial convenience to Maldivian pilgrims, streamlining immigration and travel procedures. This milestone marks yet another achievement under the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, in its continued efforts to enhance services for Maldivian pilgrims.
