Maldives, US Discuss Economic Cooperation and Maritime Security as Diplomatic Ties Mark 60 Years

Maldives and United States discussed strengthening economic cooperation, investment opportunities, and maritime security during a courtesy call at the President’s Office this morning.
Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur met President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, with both sides noting that this year marks 60 years of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries. They discussed ways to further strengthen long-standing ties and expand areas of cooperation.
According to the President’s Office, the United States expressed interest in broadening engagement in areas of mutual benefit, including economic development, increased investment flows, and maritime security cooperation.
President Muizzu expressed appreciation for the continued engagement and reiterated that, under the Maldives First foreign policy, the country remains open to development partnerships that deliver tangible benefits and support economic diversification, the President’s Office said.
Both sides concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation and expressed willingness to further strengthen bilateral relations in the years ahead.
