Resorts remained the preferred accommodation option, hosting 756,719 tourists, or 72 per cent of all arrivals. Guesthouses accounted for 244,755 visitors, representing 23 per cent of the total, while a further 25,521 tourists stayed in hotels.

The average number of daily tourist arrivals currently stands at around 5,200, down from more than 7,000 recorded earlier this year.

China continues to be the Maldives’ largest source market, followed by Russia and the United Kingdom. Italy ranks fourth, Germany fifth and India sixth.

Chinese tourist arrivals increased by 24,021 over the past month, further strengthening China’s lead as the Maldives’ top tourism market.

China became the country’s largest source market in 2023 after overtaking India. Although Russia briefly claimed the top position earlier this year, China has since regained and maintained its lead. The gap between China and India has now widened to 105,274 tourists.

The government has set a target of attracting 2.3 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
