Maldivian IT Expert Appointed to Lead Technology Planning for FIFA World Cup Stadiums

A Maldivian IT professional has been appointed as the lead venue technology manager for several major stadiums at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including the venue set to host the tournament’s final match.

Mohamed Shaheen, a Brooklyn-based Maldivian IT expert with more than 25 years of experience in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and technology operations, secured the role through his company, Wit Solutions.

Founded by Shaheen, Wit Solutions specialises in cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise networking, and IT operations. The company was awarded the World Cup technology project, placing it at the centre of technology planning and integration efforts for some of the tournament’s key venues.

In his role, Shaheen will oversee technology design, systems integration, operational readiness testing, and the development of solutions to address venue-level challenges. He will also lead technology planning and implementation across the stadiums under his responsibility.

The appointment marks a significant achievement for a Maldivian professional in the international technology sector. It highlights the increasing presence of Maldivians in fields such as information technology, engineering, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is expected to be the largest edition of the tournament to date, featuring 48 national teams and matches across multiple host cities.
