Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), which operates the national airline Maldivian, has invited proposals to lease up to two Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with deliveries targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027 and the first quarter of 2028.

According to a request for proposals issued today in the government gazette, the airline is seeking operating leases for periods of six to 12 years, with both aircraft to be based at Velana International Airport.

Interested aircraft owners, operators, lessors, commercial banks and financial institutions must submit their proposals by 28 October at 23:59 Maldives time. Proposals from brokers and intermediaries will not be accepted, according to the request.

The tender specifies a two-class cabin configuration with at least eight business-class seats, with a preferred layout of eight business-class and 130 economy-class seats.

IASL has also specified that the aircraft should be delivered in Maldivian’s livery and be free of major maintenance events for 24 months, 5,000 flight hours or 3,000 flight cycles following delivery.

The company said that the proposals will be assessed on technical suitability, financial terms and additional commercial conditions, weighted at 40 per cent, 45 per cent and 15 per cent, respectively. Financial assessments will consider the net present value of lease-related cash flows, including rentals, security deposits, induction costs, maintenance reserves and redelivery expenses.

The airline also prefers lessors to provide training support for pilots, cabin crew, maintenance personnel and dispatchers, cover ferrying costs to Velana International Airport, and offer rental relief if an aircraft is grounded by unforeseen major maintenance within the specified post-delivery period.

IASL plans to complete its evaluation and notify shortlisted bidders by 5 November.

The company stated that the new request for proposals forms part of the airline’s preparations to secure additional aircraft capacity, with the proposed deliveries scheduled to begin in late 2027.
