The Malé City Council has fined a grocery store in the Machangolhi district for placing and selling merchandise on a public road.

The council announced on Monday that enforcement action was taken against Barura Mart, located on Kurikeela Magu, after the business continued displaying and selling goods on the road despite receiving repeated warnings.

A photograph released by the council showed crates of fruit, including bananas, placed on the narrow pavement and extending onto the road outside the store.

The council did not disclose the amount of the fine imposed on the business.
