Malé Records Over 65 Road Accidents in One Week, Police Say

The Maldives Police Service has reported that 67 road accidents occurred in the Malé area, including the Sinamalé Bridge and the highway, from 4–10 January 2026.
Of these, 56 accidents were recorded in Malé itself. The highest number of incidents occurred on Tuesday, with 13 cases, followed by 12 accidents on Wednesday.

Police confirmed that only one accident resulted in serious injury, while the remaining 66 cases did not cause serious harm. The accidents collectively caused damage to 87 vehicles.
Among the reported accidents, 19 involved collisions between motorcycles, 19 involved cars and motorcycles, and six involved collisions between cars. The majority of accidents, 46 in total, occurred during the daytime, with 21 reported at night.
Authorities have highlighted that accidents in the Malé area have previously led to fatalities and permanent disabilities, underlining the ongoing concern over road safety in the region.
