Man Dies After Falling Ill on Uninhabited Island in Gaafu Alifu

A 45-year-old man has died after falling ill while visiting an uninhabited island near Kolamaafushi in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, police said.

The Maldives Police Service said it was notified by Gaafu Alifu Atoll Hospital that the man had been brought to the facility at around 2:30pm today, after falling ill while on Kalhehuttaa.

The deceased was identified as Ahmed Mishaq, 45, of Udhares, Ga. Kolamaafushi.

Police said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is under way.

In a separate incident, police said they were notified that an unconscious tourist was found floating in the sea at a resort in Dhaalu Atoll. The individual is being transported to Dhaalu Atoll Hospital for treatment, with further details expected as they become available.
