Man Found Dead Near Male’ Eastern Waterfront

A 62-year-old man was found dead in the waters off the eastern waterfront of Usfasgandu in Male’ yesterday evening, police confirmed.

Police said it received a report of a man found dead in the water at around 17:06 yesterday evening. The man, identified as Ibrahim Jauharee from H. Velasfaruge, was transported to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to police, Jauharee was last seen around 15:04, wading into the water to fish.

Jauharee was a prominent figure within the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), known for his work as a photojournalist documenting political rallies in the capital. He was also the father of renowned human rights lawyer, Mariyam Shunana.
