Man in Custody After Woman Injured in Restaurant Assault

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) have taken a 19-year-old man into custody on suspicion of involvement in an assault at a restaurant in Maafannu, Malé, which left a female employee injured.

The incident was reported to the MPS around 11 pm yesterday.

Police said a disturbance broke out inside the restaurant, during which a man attacked a woman who was seated at the establishment. People who attempted to intervene were also assaulted, while the restaurant’s door was damaged during the incident.

A female employee suffered head injuries and swelling after being struck, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
