Man Jailed 15 Years for Sexual Abuse of Multiple Children

A man investigated by the Maldives Police Service for sexually abusing children has been found guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The accused, Sharafulla Ismail, 43, of Muraka, Ga. Kanduhulhudhoo, was prosecuted under the Act on Special Provisions for Perpetrators of Sexual Abuse Against Children.
After reviewing the evidence and legal arguments, the court found him guilty of the offence, according to the police. He was sentenced on 30 April to 15 years’ imprisonment.

Police said the outcome reflects ongoing efforts to combat serious crime and ensure public safety, adding that multiple state institutions assisted in the investigation.
The government maintains a public registry of individuals convicted of child sexual abuse, known as Aamahi, which is updated by the Family and Child Protection Department(FCPD). The registry is published in accordance with Article 57 of Law No. 12/2009 and includes information compiled with data from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
