Manadhoo MP Urges to Disregard Permanent Address in Housing Eligibility
Manadhoo MP Husnee Mubarik has advocated for changes to the Land Act, suggesting that citizens should be allowed to apply for land from any location, regardless of their permanent address.
During today’s parliamentary debate on the amendment to the Land Act, Husnee Mubarik argued against the current practice of prioritising residents of a specific island when allocating land.
Husnee emphasised that land allocation should be accessible to all citizens, irrespective of their permanent address, to ensure equal opportunities. He called for amendments to the Maldives Land Act to reflect this inclusive approach.
As a member of the ruling PNC, Husnee’s comments follow the previous government’s dredging projects in Hulhumale’, Gulhi Falhu, and Giravaru, where only Male’ residents were eligible to apply for plots.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to provide housing for everyone in the country, and his major project, Rasmale’, includes land allocation.
