State Minister for Higher Education, Mariyam Fizana Rasheed, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA).

The Higher Education Ministry extended congratulations to Fizana for her new role in a statement posted on X. Furthermore, Higher Education Minister Dr. Mariyam Mariya convened with Fizana and other MQA staff on Tuesday, initiating a dialogue that actively involved the staff and signifying the commencement of this new chapter.

Having previously held prominent positions within the education sector, including serving as the Director-General of MQA and as the Dean of Maldives National University (MNU)’s Faculty of Education, Fizana brings a wealth of experience to her new position.

It is noteworthy that Fizana’s younger brother, Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, holds the position of Managing Director at Urbanco.

Fizana’s appointment comes as she steps into the role previously held by Dr. Abdul Hannan as the CEO of MQA.

Established by a presidential decree in 2000 as the Maldives Accreditation Board (MAB) and later renamed in 2010, MQA plays a pivotal role in ensuring the quality of post-secondary qualifications in accordance with the Maldives National Qualifications Framework (MNQF).
