MDP Congress to Showcase Over 100 Island Investment Opportunities at Investment Forum
MDP Chairperson, former president Mohamed Nasheed.
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will showcase more than 100 investment opportunities proposed by city and island councils at an investment forum held alongside its upcoming national congress.
The MDP congress is scheduled for 1 October, with the forum scheduled for 2 October. MDP said that the forum will connect local and international investors with projects identified by councils across the country, according to information published on the MDP’s congress website.
Speaking at a press conference held today, MDP Chairperson Mohamed Nasheed said the congress would include an investment forum aimed at creating business and income-generating opportunities linked to local councils.
The party said councils have prepared projects with assistance from the MDP Project Office and will present opportunities to investors at the forum.
The projects cover sectors including tourism, agriculture and mariculture, logistics and infrastructure, energy, fisheries, climate finance and environment, real estate and commercial development, and value addition and local production.
Investors can also indicate the atolls and areas in which they are interested, with the registration platform listing 14 atolls, including Malé, Addu, Laamu, Baa, Noonu and Gaafu Alif and Gaafu Dhaalu.
The forum will also allow potential investors to indicate their preferred investment structure, including equity, joint ventures, project finance, convertible investment and public-private partnerships.
The registration form asks investors to specify their minimum preferred investment size and whether they want one-to-one meetings with project sponsors. Participants can also identify whether they are seeking investment opportunities, co-investment partners, joint ventures, financing opportunities, government or institutional engagement, or networking.
The MDP said 74 projects had been submitted by councils and that it expected the number to exceed 100 before the congress.
The party’s congress will be held from October 1 to 3, with the investment forum scheduled as part of the three-day event. The MDP has opened registration for participants, with the party saying the congress will also be open to members and other interested parties subject to venue capacity.
