MDP Opens Applications for National Council By-Election

The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced the commencement of applications for the party’s National Council by-election.
In a statement released on Monday, the MDP declared that applications are now open for vacant posts within the National Council. The by-election is scheduled to take place on August 2nd.
This by-election aims to elect presidents for 29 constituencies, including Male’ City, Kulhudhuffushi City, and Thinadhoo City.
Prospective candidates must meet the following criteria:
Be registered as a member of the party as of 1st July 2024.
Have no record of violating the party’s articles of association within the past five years.
Interested individuals are required to submit their application forms by 2:00 pm on Sunday, 7th July. The application form includes a declaration stating that if elected, the individual will remain a member of the MDP; failure to adhere to this will result in action being taken against them.
