The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has amended its tentative voter list for the party’s upcoming chairperson election and opened a three-day period for members to submit complaints regarding the registry.

According to the party, the revised list was updated following complaints and re-registration requests submitted by members.

The MDP chairperson election is scheduled to take place on 12 June.

Three candidates are contesting the post: former president Mohamed Nasheed, Ibrahim Mohamed (Wardu), and Meekail Ahmed Naseem.

Nasheed and Meekail have both been actively campaigning ahead of the election, promoting differing visions for the party’s future leadership.

Nasheed’s campaign, titled “Big Change”, centres on broad reforms which he says are needed in the Maldives and argues can be achieved with the MDP returning to government.

Meanwhile, Meekail has campaigned on rebuilding trust between the party leadership and ordinary members, framing his candidacy around internal reform and restoring confidence within the party.

The MDP also announced the establishment of a Complaints Committee for the election process.
