The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will convene its annual congress from October 1 to 3, featuring an investment forum.

Speaking at a party press conference today, MDP Deputy Chairperson Mohamed Shifaz announced that the congress will convene at Malé City Hall. He added that the official delegates and representatives will be finalised and announced within the next two to three days.

“We are dedicating a session of this congress to an investment forum. Our goal is for local councils to identify key island projects, while our party helps secure the investors needed to bring those projects to fruition,” Shifaz said.

He noted that the decision to feature an investment forum followed consultations with local councils, with 74 island projects already submitted to the MDP Secretariat for presentation.

MDP also aims to cross the 100-project threshold before the congress.

“Through this investment forum, we are gauging interest from both local and foreign investors in these council-led projects, creating a clear path to secure their direct participation,” Shifaz said.

Mandated by party charter to convene every five years, this edition of the MDP congress centres on the theme Rahvehi Ufehdhun”.
