According to the MDP, 20 ballot boxes will be stationed at Hiriyaa and Thaajuddeen schools in Malé, with an additional 25 boxes distributed across 25 islands.

In a post on the social media platform X, MDP President and former Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid emphasised the party’s commitment to internal democracy, highlighting that MDP allows its members to participate in party governance.

The by-elections aim to fill vacated seats following the defection of several members to the Democrats party, led by former president Mohamed Nasheed, last year. It will also include the election of a president and vice presidents for council seats in six new constituencies, which correspond to new parliamentary constituencies.
