The total number of measles cases reported in the Maldives this year has risen to 15 after four new infections were detected in the Greater Malé area over the past week, according to the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

The HPA said the four cases were identified during the past week and were included in its latest weekly measles update, which is now published every Tuesday.

The agency urged members of the public to seek medical attention if they develop a fever accompanied by a red rash or spots on the body.

Individuals seeking medical care for suspected measles should wear a face mask and avoid using public transport, the HPA said.

The agency also advised anyone tested for suspected measles to isolate at home until further guidance is provided.

Health authorities have continued to monitor the situation and issue public health guidance as the number of cases increases.
