The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission has published the grant amounts to be disbursed to 39 media outlets that have qualified for government media grant aid.
On Monday, the commission announced that 41 broadcasters and media organisations were eligible for financial assistance under the scheme for private media entities. However, in a press release issued yesterday, the commission said only 39 outlets completed the final procedural requirements needed to receive the funds.
The commission said two organisations failed to complete the final stage of the process. It has informed the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts to facilitate the transfer of funds from the Ministry of Finance and Planning to the eligible outlets, including the ones that did not manage to complete the final requirements in the time frame provided.
As the funds are allocated from the 2025 state budget, the commission said it aims to ensure that all eligible media organisations receive the payments before the end of the year.
According to the published breakdown, only two organisations will receive more than MVR 1 million. Sangu Online is set to receive MVR 1,081,074.53, while Sun Online will receive MVR 1,068,280.75.
The commission said all eligible media outlets will receive a minimum of MVR 500,000 under the grant scheme.
