Meekail Ahmed Naseem, South Galolhu MP urged the government to speed up housing allocation for individuals with official documents under the ‘Binveriya’ and ‘Gedhoruveriya’ schemes, in today’s session.
Accusing the current administration of making contradictory statements regarding the issuance of housing under the schemes, Meekail urged the government to clarify its policy and expedite the allocation of housing to those who have received their documents.
Meekail highlighted President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s campaign promise not to seize lands and flats awarded under public housing schemes, asserting that thousands had voted for him based on that commitment. However, after taking office, the administration cast doubt on the legitimacy of some registrations issued for land under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme.
The emergency motion, accepted for debate with a unanimous vote of 29 on this morning, prompted Meekail to assert that the new administration has begun revealing its “true colors.”
Accusing the administration of reneging on its electoral pledge not to seize land and flats, Meekail warned against what he perceived as an attempt to gain votes in the upcoming parliamentary elections through coercion.
