MET Office Issues White Alert Over Swell Waves for Third Consecutive Day

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a white alert for the entire country for the third consecutive day, warning of swell waves associated with the current extreme weather conditions.
The alert is in effect from 11:30am to 3:30pm today, with the MET Office warning that swell waves are expected across the country during this period.

The MET Office has issued similar white alerts over the past three days as the Maldives continues to experience the Hulhangu, or Southwest Monsoon.

Swell waves are common during the Hulhangu Monsoon, which typically lasts from May to November. On Sunday, swell waves in Malé swept away tables and chairs placed near the outer wall of the Carnival area in Henveiru, along with some parked motorcycles.
The Maldives experiences two main monsoon seasons each year. The Hulhangu or Southwest Monsoon generally occurs from May to November, while the Northeast Monsoon, locally known as the Iruvai Monsoon, usually occurs between January and March.
