MFDA Warns Against Counterfeit Cancer Treatment Injection Imported into Maldives

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has warned the public against a counterfeit version of an injection used in cancer treatment after the product was imported into the Maldives.

According to a notice published by the MFDA in the Government Gazette, counterfeit versions of the “Opdivo” injection, manufactured by Ireland-based Swords Laboratories Unlimited, have been imported into the country.

The authority identified batch number 8081399 as the affected batch and has prohibited its importation, sale and use in the Maldives.

Opdivo, also known by its generic name nivolumab, is a prescription immunotherapy medicine used to treat several types of cancer, including melanoma, lung cancer and kidney cancer.

The MFDA has urged relevant parties and the public to exercise caution and refrain from using or distributing the identified batch.
