MIFCO Increases Skipjack Tuna Purchase Price to MVR 20
The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has increased the purchase price of skipjack tuna to MVR 20 per kilogram across all its ports.
According to the company, all MIFCO harbours will begin purchasing skipjack tuna at the new rate starting today.
While the price of skipjack tuna has been revised upwards, there is no change to the buying price of yellowfin tuna. Yellowfin weighing between 10 kg and 15 kg will continue to be purchased at MVR 20 per kilogram, while fish above 15 kg will be bought at MVR 25 per kilogram.

The latest adjustment follows a previous increase to MVR 18.50 per kilogram, up from MVR 17, implemented earlier this week.
A MIFCO official had previously said the price changes were not intended as one-off adjustments, noting that fish purchase rates fluctuate depending on seasonal catch levels and market conditions. The official also indicated that the price of skipjack tuna would not fall below MVR 16 per kilogram.
