Migrant Health Camp Launched at Kulhudhuffushi Hospital for World AIDS Day

Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital unveiled its “Migrant Health Camp” as part of the World AIDS Day festivities in the region. 

The State Minister of Health, Ahmed Gasim inaugurated the camp, emphasising the significance of proactive health measures.

In collaboration with the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Mission for Migrant Workers Maldives, and Society for Health Education (SHE), the camp, operational from December 1 to 2, extends counseling and tests for HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis, and filariasis to foreign nationals. 

The initiative further offers complimentary medical consultations, medications, and legal aid.

As of December 31, 2022, Maldives reported the detection of HIV cases, consisting of 6 women and 34 men. Among them, 15 individuals have succumbed to the illness, while 22 are presently undergoing treatment.

The treatment protocol for HIV involves antiretroviral treatment, a service offered free of charge in Maldives since 2004.
