MMBC Warns Media Outlets to Re-Register by October 27

The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) has warned that registrations of non-compliant media outlets will be cancelled if they fail to re-register and update their official records by October 27, 2026. 

According to an announcement issued by the Commission on September 8, the requirement is being implemented under Regulation No. 2026/R-27, the News and Magazine Registration Regulation, introduced under the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Act.

Media outlets must submit their re-registration forms and updated details before the deadline to avoid legal penalties or operational bans. Official application materials and submission guidelines remain accessible through the MMBC portal and at their headquarters located on Majeedhee Magu in Malé. 

Following the ratification of the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Act on September 18, 2025, the former Maldives Media Council (MMC) was officially dissolved, and the Maldives Broadcasting Commission was reconstituted to form the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC). With its establishment, registration responsibilities for news agencies officially shifted away from the Ministry of Youth, placing sole authority over all media registration and record updates in the Maldives directly under the newly established commission.
